About John
A native New Yorker, John has traveled to all seven continents, including parts of the world few humans will ever see firsthand. An avid photographer, his clear eye and unique perspective have captured the breathtaking beauty of nature and wildlife.
When not traveling, John is a data scientist, board member, philanthropist…as well as a proud husband, parent and grandparent.
At Microsoft, he was responsible for infusing data science and AI to address some of the world’s greatest challenges: promoting sustainable use of the planet’s resources; improving opportunities for people with disabilities; and leading the worldwide AI for Health initiative.
John Kahan is not only passionate about wildlife, but also about human life. He is a father of four children, and a son who passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in 2003. Since then, he has dedicated his time and resources to raising awareness and funding for SIDS research and prevention.
He is the founder and director of the Aaron Matthew SIDS Research Foundation, of Seattle Children’s named after his only son, who died of SIDS in 2003. Here, researchers worldwide partner with some of the top data scientists in the world using AI and data to find the causes and cures for SIDS. He also speaks at various events and conferences and shares his personal story and his hope for a future without SIDS.
100% of the sales from his books and photography goes to this important cause that hopes not only to solve SIDS but improve infant mortality. You can learn more at www.GiveToStopSIDS.org
